Wiki in Education11/29/2014
0 Comments Wiki is a tool that can be used in many ways. After reading the articles I thought of numerous ways to use a Wiki. One would be for the educators collaboration and the other would be for students collaboration. There are very few times throughout the year where an entire department from the whole school district are able to get together. The ability to collaborate with the entire department through a Wiki would be very beneficial. Departments could discuss new ideas they have, assessments they have used, or things they are struggling with and they need advice. The other way that Wiki would be beneficial in education would be for students. If they are doing a project outside of school, everyone gets busy and it's hard to actually come up with a time to meet and complete the project. Using Wiki helps solve that problem; all participants are able to contribute at their own time and throughout the day or weekend. Another way that students could use a Wiki is for homework or study help/questions. In my humble experience, I think that Wiki is just great for sharing ideas, solving problems and saving time. I have never felt that LinkedIn is useful, but I have created a profile awhile ago http://lnkd.in/bvj-VUS .
Similarities between Facebook and LinkedIn are: the messaging, contacts -the "friend”, and the profile information. Differences between Facebook and LinkedIn are that LinkedIn is professional profile and you would never want to put anything on there that is not considered professional. Where Facebook is more of a social site and it is helpful to share everyday life with friends. Both LinkedIn and Facebook have the purpose of connecting you with people. 13 out of 15! That is how many of the top 15 tools for learning I have used at some point in my life. The only two that I have not used are Preziand Slideshare . All the others in the top 15 I have used. I was not surprised at the top 15. What did surprise me was how low in the list Instagram was, number 85. I wonder will anything change in the future.
Here is a YouTube video I found of the club volleyball team I was on. Its not the greatest clip because its not so clear - I am on the far left
This is an awesome video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc0oDIEbYFc&feature=youtu.be that sends a great message about difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 presented without using words. How the Internet is Revolutionizing Education is truly remarkable. It’s great to see statistics - http://edtechtimes.com/2012/11/22/how-the-internet-is-revolutionizing-education-infographic/. Considering that so much has changed in the past 40 years, I wonder what our future looks like.
In this internet era and transparency in technology, there are so many tools available that help one stay organized or perhaps that are useful in helping one learn something new. I personally need to write everything down if I stand a chance at remembering to complete whatever it is that needs to get done . That is why I really liked the tools : Google Docs, 30 Boxes Online calendar, Dreaminder! These apps allow one to start making a list on one device and continue making that list on another device, save certain important dates and get goals accomplished. It allows one to mark things off when you have completed them and see where one stands with goals achieved and the once to be reached. Use tools – Be productive!
I have learned so many things in this class and I love it. I would say the biggest thing I have discovered is this blog. So many people blog nowadays, but to me that seemed challenging. I have never tried to do this until now. I am challenged everyday but I am thankful that I am growing and discovering new avenues of writing and connecting with others. I believe that blogging is remarkable tool that can be used in education. Considering that everyone is social media junkie now, blogging is helpful in the sense of learning the channels of communication- how to connect blog with other social media profiles. Blogging will be so helpful in my career as well. I can teach my students how to blog and share their knowledge and struggles as well.
I've just updated my professional profile on LinkedIn. Connect with me and view my profile. http://lnkd.in/bvj-VUS
